appjack Tired Dad 2 is the only sequel I have ever liked. This guy owns the genre. I bet his kids don't appreciate his mastery.

Will you remember the time we went to dinner? Just you and I. Will you remember the time I lost my temper? So will I. I hope you remember the time we spent together when you were 5 and 9. I don't remember what before was like because it feels like forever that you've been mine.

We made a list we put it on the fridge so we couldn't forget Of all the things we do every morning like getting dressed and brushing teeth The signs we make and all the steps we take so they know the rules to break

Meanwhile waiting for you to find your shoes takes forever. I have spent at least five years of my life doing this. Maybe I should start a new life with a secret family of mostly grown kids who have jobs and would support me. When we finally get out of the house it's so nice. I might just keep walking and never return, it's tempting. But then I would miss all the times when we get home and you sit down to take your socks off and you hand me all the lint in- between your toes and you think that I want it. Don't know how we started this game but it's funny and I'd miss it if I never came back.

Love the way you wake me up at 6am everyday. It's like you've got a doggone rooster in your room. Love the way takes you half an hour to get dressed. It's ok it's not like we do this everyday. Love the way you've got ice cream on your eyebrow. Saturdays your favorite thing is to play board games. Love the way you told me I smelled like lunch. It's not the same when you're gone but can't remember that.
6.
It's been a while since I've heard anything coming from that room. That might seem nice but it usually means something's going down. I don't know what you're getting into. But it sounds like you're up to no good. Reminds me of the time you broke out of the, out of the house. It was nap time but you climbed out of your bedroom window I was shocked to find you in the backyard lookin' up at me with a big grin You were up to no good but it wasn't too bad.
7.
We've been using our inside voices. We've been using them inside like you asked us to. We've been using our outside voices. We've been using them outside and sometimes we use them inside, too. When we're together every day I hear everything you say Why are you yelling in my ear when I'm right here? Have you listened to your inside voices? Have you listened to what they're telling you to do? Pay attention to your inside voices pay attention and they'll help you know what to do I know someday you'll be grown and you'll be out there on your own. But I hope you will come and yell at me regularly.

Montpelier 02:19
Hanging out with kids all day makes you realize how dumb you are. Seeing how much they know so young makes you wonder how you got this far. Hey dad, why did Rome collapse? I don't know. Why do you take so many naps? I don't know. Getting asked a hundred questions a day reminds you how much you don't know. Watching these kids remember everything makes you wonder how much you forgot. Did Mexico fight in World War 2? I don't know. What does a flux capacitor do? I don't know. Who built the Suez Canal? I don't know. What do you call a group of owls? I don't know. Has Netherlands won the world cup? I don't know. How do bears know when to wake up? I don't know. How did Chewbacca and Han Solo meet? I don't know. Why do you have so much hair on your feet? I don't know. What's the capital of Vermont? Montpelier.

about

Questions I have: What will our kids will remember from their childhoods? Why don't they follow the rules we spend all this time making and talking about? Why does it take so long to get out the door? Could I start a secret family that actually took care of me?

I don't have any answers, but I made 10 short songs that help me endure/enjoy the never-ending love/loathe cycle of parenting--a journey I'm lucky and privileged to be exhausted by.

I had never recorded any music before the pandemic, but after spending lots of time at home thinking more about how I might make some music that helped to tell my story, I recorded my first songs in December of 2020. Among working, parenting, spousing and trying to stay sane, recording these tunes has been a powerful creative outlet for me and a new way to organize my thoughts and express them in my own way.

Just like the last one, this album was recorded at very low volumes late at night with no digital editing. I use a Tascam DR-40x 4-track recorder with built-in microphones to record a Martin acoustic guitar, Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator drum machines and a Fender electric guitar into a VOX 4-watt tube amp. I use Quiet Theory's Prelude reverb/delay guitar effect pedal liberally, JHS's Kodiak tremolo and Farm's Sweet Leaf fuzz pedal.
