Instead of passively aggressively complaining about my kids in song, I made a record inspired by the 1986 fantasy-adventure novel classic Redwall. I did this because reading to my kids has been one of the best things that I’ve ever done. We’ve read so much together, from books that had more teethmarks on them than words, to classics like Around the World in 80 Days and Harry Potter. Reading together has been a lot of fun, given us an excuse to spend time together, and hopefully built a connection to reading and stories that the boys can keep forever. We just finished Redwall, and I felt like making some instrumental tunes that might accompany key moments of the book in some weird imaginary audio version of the story. Musically, I used a lot more electronic instruments this time around, particularly Moog’s Animoog Z app for the iPad. The Animoog is an incredibly expressive instrument, capable of producing a diverse array of sounds that anyone can play. I paired it with the most guitar shredding I have done on any Tired Dad records, using my heavily modified Fender Squire Mustang offset electric guitar through a 4-watt VOX tube amp. Enjoy!
